{jathumbnail}7-9 May, Ciudad Real Madrid – “We are not alone, we know what we want”. For the 6th year, EAPN Spain organized its national Meeting of people experiencing poverty, with the help of the Ministry of Public Health and Social Affairs and of the European Commission.
On 13 May, EAPN Belgian Network held a press conference in Brussels to present its strategic work 2009-2011. Paul Varenewyck, its Coordinator and Christine Mayet, Coordinator of the Walloon (French-speaking) network, presented the work of the Federal network, represented by the Flemish, Walloon and Brussels network.
“Fighting poverty must be put at the centre of the European agenda (…) social cohesion, equity within the EU and throughout the world should be EU’s priority (…) Child poverty should also be tackled, providing adequate means and making sure that children are part of the decision process that affects them”, firmly declared D. Carlos Susías, President of EAPN Spain, ahead of the European elections.

EAPN Spain President Carlos Susías will be chairing a conference on 28 April on the occasion of the New Society Forum (“Foro de Nueva Sociedad”). The New Society Forum was founded in 2000 by his current President, José Luis Rodríguez Garcia.
Responding to the disappointing closure of the National Forum on Europe, Anna Visser, Director of the European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN) Ireland, expressed concern that this closure is the latest in a long line of decisions that undermine and stifle the quality of Irish democratic debate. 2009 is a critical year for Ireland’s engagement with Europe.
