On the occasion of the EAPN Executive meeting in Edinburgh, the Scottish Poverty Alliance is organising two half-day seminars exploring the links between Europe and the fight against poverty. Both seminars are open to all and free, but places are limited so register now!
On the first day of term for Ireland’s newly elected MEPs (Tuesday 14th July), Dóchas and the European Anti-Poverty Network Ireland have come together to urgently call for an Irish forum that will allow MEPs to engage with voters, groups and individuals, so that they can account for how they are living up to their election promises and commitments.
On 19th June the Community Platform and a group called Is Feidir Linn (‘yes we can’) held a conference to discuss the possible future for a more social and just Ireland.
The poverty Alliance and Joseph Rowntree Foundation are organizing a joint seminar “Hearts and minds: building public support to tackle poverty and income inequality in the UK”, on 9 July 2009.
The Poverty Alliance (EAPN Scotland) has just released its Scottish Anti-Poverty Review, which focuses on fighting poverty during the recession and carries articles on the living wage, volunteering and a citizen’s basic income. Download the Review.
EAPN Luxemburg initiated what is now a permanent photograph exhibition at the Luxemburg City History Museum (Musée d’Histoire de la Ville de Luxembourg) on Poverty in Luxemburg. This exhibition aims at raising awareness on the existence and living conditions of homeless people in Luxemburg and on the contrast with rich people living conditions and environment.
EAPN Luxembourg est à l’origine d’une exposition désormais permanente sur la pauvreté au Luxembourg, au Musée d’Histoire de la Ville de Luxembourg.
Speaking after the launch of EAPN’s minimum income campaign, Director of EAPN Ireland, Anna Visser described the initiative as “a litmus test of Europe’s commitment to the 79 million people who are at risk of poverty across the continent”.
The Italian Network is organizing a meeting on “Citizenship and Participation” in Rome, on June 19th, in partnership with the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs and the Regional Council for Voluntary Services.
