On the 30 June and 1st July EAPN Galicia organized a well-attended forum aiming to increase the input of the third sector in Galicia in the regional implantation of Europe 2020 and the NRP, and to engage in the new Galician law on Social Inclusion.
EESC’s Opinion on the European Platform Against Poverty and Social Exclusion was approved at the end of June. It was passed unanimously, with 3 abstentions. The Opinion is available in several languages on: http://www.eesc.europa.eu/?i=portal.en.soc-opinions.14953.
Sian Jones, EAPN’s Policy Coordinator, was asked to contribute to the work of the opinion as expert for the rapporteur Maureen O’Neill (Scotland), together with Caritas and Henri Lourdelle from ETUC as experts for the Social Committee.
{jathumbnail}From 1st till 5th March 2011, Fintan Farrell, EAPN’s director, took part in the Global Movement 2012 International Preparatory Meeting in Delhi, India, on land rights and on and the common problem of poor people across the South who are losing their natural assets of land, forest and water, which ended by the Delhi Declaration, put together by all participants.
{jathumbnail}07/06 – European Commission country-specific Recommendations focus on reducing deficits, which will lead to cutting public services and wages, and increasing retirement ages.
{jathumbnail}EAPN contributed to this participative conference organized by GUE/NLP together with some of the main European social movements (ATTAC, Euromemorandum, Transform, CADTM, European Social Forum and Joint Social conference, amongst others) which highlighted the social impact of the crisis and Austerity measures in the context of the EU’s economic governance package, including the Euro Plus Pact.
{jathumbnail}31/05 – EAPN participated in this key conference organized by the PES and the PES Group in the CoR calling for a new, fairer growth model. The crucial role of regions and cities in the definition of fair growth and the implementation of innovative measures to achieve it was underlined.

{jathumbnail}11/05 – EAPN responds to the Flagship Initiative A European Agenda for New Skills and Jobs, put forward by the European Commission last November.
The XXII General Assembly of EAPN will take place in Lisbon from 16 to 18 June. The theme for this General Assembly is that in the light of the current economic, political and social crisis ‘Europe needs a new Heart’.
The 12th Congress of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) took place in Athens from the 16th to the 19th of May. Fintan Farrell, Director of EAPN was present at the Congress.
