MEP Karima Delli and EAPN hold a public presentation of EAPN’s explainer on “Wealth, inequality and social polarisation in the EU”

On Tuesday 4 October, MEP Karima Delli and EAPN held a public presentation of EAPN’s explainer on Wealth, inequality and social polarisation in the EU. Speakers included Michael Moser, Vice President of EAPN, Martin Schürtz, expert on wealth and inequalities and Andrew Watt, Senior Researcher at the Eurropean Trade Union Institute (ETUI).

5 EAPN national members and EAPN Europe address President Barroso for more detailed Recommendations on National Reform Programmes

On 19th July, anti-poverty organisations in 5 EU Member States (Portugal, Ireland, Romania, Greece and Latvia) and EAPN Europe wrote to Mr Barroso to request that the European Commission publish more detailed Recommendations on National Reform Programmes for each of their countries, reviewing the key objectives set by Europe 2020.

A good beginning for Row4Rights

24/06 – EAPN spoke on the opportunities and risks afforded by Europe 2020 to make progress on undocumented migrants’ rights, at the 10 Year anniversary seminar of PICUM.

EAPN participates in EUROCHILD Policy debate on Europe 2020 and the NRPs

On the 23 June, Eurochild presented their assessment of progress on child poverty and well-being in the 2011 National Reform Programmes.

EAPN participates in 1st Galician Forum on poverty, social exclusion and third/voluntary sector

On the 30 June and 1^st July EAPN Galicia organized a well-attended forum aiming to increase the input of the third sector in Galicia in the regional implantation of Europe 2020 and the NRP, and to engage in the new Galician law on Social Inclusion.

European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) Opinion on the European Platform Against Poverty and Social Exclusion

EESC’s Opinion on the European Platform Against Poverty and Social Exclusion was approved at the end of June. It was passed unanimously, with 3 abstentions. The Opinion is available in several languages on: http://www.eesc.europa.eu/?i=portal.en.soc-opinions.14953.

Sian Jones, EAPN’s Policy Coordinator, was asked to contribute to the work of the opinion as expert for the rapporteur Maureen O’Neill (Scotland), together with Caritas and Henri Lourdelle from ETUC as experts for the Social Committee.

Global movement 2012: Achieving People’s Control Over Land and Livelihood

{jathumbnail}From 1^st till 5^th March 2011, Fintan Farrell, EAPN’s director, took part in the Global Movement 2012 International Preparatory Meeting in Delhi, India, on land rights and on and the common problem of poor people across the South who are losing their natural assets of land, forest and water, which ended by the Delhi Declaration, put together by all participants.
