Ahead of the EPSCO Council of the 5th and 6th of December, EAPN calls on the EU Ministers of Employment and Social Affairs to strengthen the place of social inclusion in the Lisbon agenda.
01/02 – The EESC and the European Movement held a joint conference in Dublin on 1 February under the title “Ireland 40 Years On: the benefits, opportunities and challenges of EU Membership”. EAPN was asked to contribute to a panel “Ireland as an example of how to cope with the challenges posed by the financial crisis”.

16-17/01, The Hague, Netherlands – This conference was jointly organised by Eurofound and the Dutch Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment. The conference is aimed at highlighting the implementation of active inclusion policies in relation to vulnerable youth and the related reforms to welfare systems currently taking place in European countries.

As Member States were still negotiating their strategic priorities (National Strategic Reference Frameworks and Operational Programmes) with the European Commission, the EAPN seminar aimed at examining the place given to social inclusion in the new programming period of structural funds, focusing more specifically on mechanisms that can support social NGOs’ access to the funds.
29/01 – EAPN participated in a small workshop with other social NGOs including Eurodiaconia, Caritas, Youth Forum, Solidar and Eurohealthnet, to discuss Eurofound’s forthcoming Research on the Social Inclusion of Young Peope, as part of Pillar 4 of their main Research programme: adequate living standards and promoting social cohesion.
