2011 marks the first operational year of the new Europe 2020 Strategy, committed to delivering inclusive, as well as smart and sustainable growth.
Brussels, 2 November 2011 – In view of the meeting in Warsaw on 3 and 4 November of Directors General in charge of Cohesion Policy in all EU Member States, EAPN sent them its views on the Commission’s legislative proposals for the Structural Funds’ Regulations post-2013.
Has the EU made progress in terms of reducing the number of people faced with poverty and social exclusion in Europe, as per their Europe 2020′ strategy commitments?
EAPN is now in the process of making the evaluation of the First Annual Convention of the European Platform Against Poverty, held on the 17th October in Krakow. The network had sent its messages to the Annual Convention on Friday 14 October, calling for the Convention to push for urgent action to prevent the Europe 2020 Strategy increasing poverty. EAPN participated along with over 40 national and European-Organisation members and people experiencing poverty, invited by their national delegations.
19/10 – EAPN participated in the presentation of an important new report commissioned by the Greens, analysing the impact of the Economic Semester, NRPs and Recommendations in pursuing the objectives of Europe 2020.

05/10 – On 13 October the French local authorities of Ile de France (i.e. Department of Paris) will host the regional conference Logement d’abord (Housing first).
On 11 October, the Community Platform Challenging Poverty and Inequality will launch Paying our Way. This publication outlines a realistic set of proposals which would take us from the under-resourced, unsustainable and unfair tax system in place today and in the direction of a modern progressive European tax system.
