The main new element is the new Compact for Growth and Jobs and re-focussing of Structural Funds to this end, with gains for youth unemployment, research, innovation, SME’s, and a reference to implementing effective policies to combat poverty and support vulnerable groups.. but with no detail.

{jathumbnail}27/06 – EAPN’s policy coordinator, Sian Jones presented EAPN’s alternative country-specific Recommendations, to Commissioners Rehn and Andor, in a large event organized by the Greens/EFA: Kick Start Social Europe – Beyond Austerity, held in the European Parliament.
Ahead of the European Council and right after the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council, please find attached an Open Letter to Heads of States that nine leading Members of the European Parliament and 65 leading trade unions, civil society organisations, health organisations and industry associations have signed up to, calling on Heads of States and governments to stop cutting essential health and welfare systems.
Commenting on the release Frank Field MPs report from the Independent Review on Poverty and Life Chances, Peter Kelly, Director of the Poverty Alliance in Scotland, said….
