On 25 May, Belgium will vote at European level but also at Belgian level (for the federal and regional Parliaments). Belgium and Europe need political decision makers who get formally committed for a more social Belgium and Europe, to stop impoverishing policies and take concrete and efficient actions to eradicate poverty in Belgium and Europe. The Belgian Anti-Poverty Network (BAPN) is campaigning with three manifestos for the federal (national) and European elections:
{jathumbnail}At a Public Hearing today in the European Parliament, European Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) have joined forces in an ad-hoc coalition to present country-specific recommendations for 2013 in the areas of employment, poverty, education, tax, environmental change and gender equality. Together, they call for a more balanced social, sustainable and equality-based Economic and Monetary Union, Europe 2020 Strategy and effective multi-stakeholder engagement in the whole European Semester process.
{jathumbnail}The Flagship Initiative A European Agenda for New Skills and Jobs has been put forward by the European Commission last November, and it is currently pending endorsement by the European Parliament and the EPSCO.
EAPN holds its Strategic Congress and General Assembly 03 & 04 July 2015
The European-Anti Poverty Network holds its Strategic Congress and General Assembly, on 03 and 04 July 2015 in Bilbao, Spain, attended by over 100 participants. The event is a key moment for EAPN members, EAPN national networks and European Organisations member of EAPN, to exchange and to endorse EAPN’s new Strategic Plan. The participation of key representatives from academic institutions, regional, national and EU authorities will enrich the debates. The President of the Basque Country Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu will notably open EAPN’s the Strategic Congress. EAPN’s Strategic Congress also comes at a decisive moment to take a firm stand on several crises, notably on the EU Migration Agenda and on the EU’s response to the Greek crisis. On 04 July, EAPN’s 2015 General Assembly will also elect its new board.

Leading human rights organisations meet in Dublin with Irish Presidency to strategise on action to move forward the fight against child poverty in the EU
Dublin, 10 April 2013 – One in four children in the European Union is at risk of poverty, or already experiencing it. That equals 25.3 million children.In the wake of the economic crisis and austerity measures poverty levels are escalating across the continent, particularly child poverty. A recent European Commission Recommendation calls on EU governments to “invest in children – to break the cycle of disadvantage”1.
