EAPN 2015 Annual Policy Conference | Can the Semester deliver on poverty and participation? #2015EAPN

Friday 9th October, EAPN held its annual policy conference where it presented its Assessment of the 2015 National Reform Programmes (NRPs) and European Semester, and debated together with 150 stakeholders including 80 EAPN national members, decision-makers and other stakeholders key questions: What needs to be done to ensure that the European Semester deliver on its Europe 2020 commitments to reduce poverty and promote participation? How can we help the EU move forward on a social, sustainable and democratic strategy that could give hope and restore faith in the EU?

Key speakers included Commissioner Thyssen, Outi Slotboom, DG ECFIN, Raquel Lucas, Cabinet of Commissioner Dombrovskis, Sergio Prieto, MEP & Tom Dominique, Chair of the SPC. The conference opened with a video by Martin Schulz, President of the European Parliament.

Members of the EP, EESC, ETUC, and other civil society actors including people with direct experience of poverty were present. The event was hosted by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) /SOC Section.

The European Council must launch a democratic debate to ensure an ambitious social dimension of the European Monetary Union (EMU)!

Brussels, 26 June 2013 – EAPN has written to the Prime Ministers prior to their meeting on the 27-28 June, where a discussion will take place on the next steps for President Van Rompuy’s proposals for a social dimension of the EMU. EAPN sets out concrete proposals and calls for a democratic debate to ensure that the social dimension is not reduced to an instrument of economic policy but contributes to a vision for an EU based on social rights and solidarity.

The Poverty Alliance (EAPN Scotland): New edition of Poverty in Scotland

08/03/2014 – The Child Poverty Action Group in association with the Poverty Alliance (EAPN in Scotland), the Open University and Glasgow Caledonian University have published a new edition of Poverty in Scotland series of books. The latest edition focuses on the key social justice and anti-poverty issues facing Scotland as it decides its constitutional future on 18 September 2014. As well as looking at the Scottish situation, the collection contains articles look at the experience of tackling poverty in Germany, Belgium, the Basque Country, Catalonia and others.
