EAPN letter to the EPSCO Council: Put People and Respect for the European Social Model first

Ahead of the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council (EPSCO) on 9-10 March 2009, EAPN has written to the Ministers regarding the impact of the crisis on people in poverty and anti poverty organisations. In their letter, EAPN puts forward short and long term proposals to ensure that the needs of people experiencing poverty are included in the response to the crisis.

EAPN participates in First Round of Social Cohesion Days

06/06/2015 – Barbara Helfferich director of EAPN attended the first round of SOCIAL COHESION DAYS organized by the Italian Foundation “EasyCare” from Reggio Emilia from 4-6 of June 2015. During a panel discussion with representatives of trade unions and social NGOs, Barbara presented the work of EAPN underlining in particular work done under the Minimum Income Project.  She also detailed the efforts of EAPN and its national networks to fight poverty in the context of the European Semester.

Macedonian Anti-Poverty Platform (MAPP) working on Youth in 2014

21/02/2014 – The Macedonian Anti-Poverty Platform (MAPP) has created and started implementing a youth policy through a multi sectoral approach. In order to meet youth needs and interests, MAPP’s goal is to promote youth organizing, establishing measures and recommendations associated with young people and their activities, strengthening their participation in the public life and informing them.

EAPN attends Vulnerable Consumers Working Group

03/06/2015 – EAPN participated in the European Commission’s Vulnerable Consumer’s group organized jointly by DG Energy and DG Justice. The group operated from 2012-13 and is now starting up again  looking at develop new guidance for the Energy Union and highlighting good practices in the field of energy poverty and vulnerable consumers. A key issue will be the issue of  price regulation and the overlap between policy solutions on poverty and energy poverty.

19/02/2014 – Kisa, a member of EAPN Cyprus, has forwarded us this editorial article by the Cyprus Mail, “Immigration department appears to be accountable to no one”, which raises the issues of systematic contempt of the Supreme Court’s decisions, violation of the rule of law and abuse of power by the Civil Registry and Migration Department (CRMD) of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Cyprus.
